Laredo Classroom

For this exciting project, our SIFE team travels to Laredo, TX, an at-risk area for high school dropout and illiteracy, to teach students at the middle school and high school about business plans, ethics, advertising and marketing and other important aspects of entrepreneurship. The team spends three days in the school teaching and interacting with students. The first day in the middle school, members of our SIFE team teach classrooms lesson plans about what it takes to be an entrepreneur, the affect of foreign currency rates, and how to efficiently use money by creating a budget. The second day is spent making different types of products and learning productivity. The students get "paid" with "Mercado" money. On the last day, bring all of the products they made to the gym where we set up a mini market, complete with two countries and an international border where the students use the money they made the previous day buying products. Last year, we expanded our reach to seniors in high school teaching business and personal ethics lessons also found on this site.
