EDGE or Ethical Decisions in a Global Economy is a project created by Drury SIFE team members that is geared towards helping teach high school students (and individuals in general) the importance of ethics in several different areas. EDGE is designed as a competition that puts students in ethical dilemmas where they were then challenged with creating a solution to the problems they face.
One day a week, for four weeks, teams of local high school students come to Drury University and learn about different areas of ethics: personal, environmental, media, and business. In each lesson the students learn such things as: the sources of each ethic, issues that arise from each ethic and ways to encourage proper ethics in the area discussed. After every lesson teams are given a case study to help develop their ethical thinking. The fifth week, students are asked to develop their own ethics project/lesson and present their creation to a panel of judges. Winners are then selected and receive cash prizes and money to help implement their lesson in Springfield area high schools.
EDGE has issued a new part of its competition this year by offering several different scholarships for high school students around the country. In order to receive the scholarship students are asked to participate in both an ethics training module and the completion of a business case study essay. Scholarships can range from $500-$2000 and are sponsored by various corporations around the country and local banks.
